This module addresss presentation and outreach skills, integral to successful technical communication to various audiences. In an earlier portion of this module (Module 3a), you downloaded and reviewed a Risk Communication primer, developed by ASTDR, and a PowerPoint presentation.
As a result of completing the first part of this module (Module 3a), you should have:
Now that your PowerPoint presentation has been developed and submitted as per the above assignment (Module 3a), we will conclude Module 3 by going through the student presentations. These presentations serve three purposes:
Assignment: Download each of the class presentations (see links below). On the Discussion Board, please contribute to each "presentation thread" a summary of what you understand to be the primary mission of each presentation was. Each presentation will have it's own Discussion Board thread. Each of you should be able to provide a summary in 3 sentences (one small paragraph). This summary should not only show that you "got" the primary mission of the presentation, but that you can concisely abstract and distill the essence of it.
The next part of the exercize is to provide a constructive critique. This will be done anonymously, using a Word document that you can download here. Each of you will need to fill out one of these critique forms for each presentation. Your name will not be on the form, so it will be anonymous. These forms will be emailed to the instructor (Dr. Kane). Dr. Kane will, in turn, forward the forms back to the respective presenters. Constructive critiques are challenging to accomplish, hence the use of a standardized form. There is also room on this form, however, for you to provide additional information. This type of feedback is very helpful, on both the receiving end, as well as the critiquing end (deciphering what you like, don't like, what was effective for you and what could stand improvement).
